Half Birthday

January 7th my boy turned 2.5 and it was a great day. Since my birthday is the day before and Chet's is the day after, we had lots of celebrating going on and he sang Happy Birthday three days straight.

I've noticed in the last few weeks he is turning into a big boy rather than just a toddler. He is LOUD. He looooooves cars. And trains. And planes. And tractors. Pretty much anything that has some sort of a motor. He loves to make the specific noises for each one. He loves to make them crash. His favorite thing to do is lay on the floor and watch the wheels move as he moves the cars around.

He loves to cuddle and is such a big softie. But in an instant he can be running around the house screaming and crashing into things and then saying "Almost fall!' when he falls to the ground.

He has a temper like mad. And is very particular about everything. Some would say that resembles me. I have no idea what they are talking about.
Lately his speech is getting better and he is putting more words together. Sometimes he catches me off guard, like this morning, I went to get him out of bed and I went to rub his back and he said "No touch me, Mama." Um ok what?! He's pulling teenage boy moves like that. And refusing to kiss me. He only lets me kiss his cheek and then runs off laughing.

He is warming up to sister and likes to push his boundaries with her. He finds it hilarious when I lay her in his bed and then he tells me she is cold and needs to be cuddled up with his blankets. I can't wait to see them grow closer.

Happy half birthday, Q. You are loved.

7 Months

Adeline Cecelia. Where do I even begin with you?! I honestly was worried that I couldn't love another child like your brother, but you proved me wrong.
Your smile is so contagious. It is so so big. It fits the rest of you very well.
You love to watch your brother and talk to him. You get irritated with him quickly though when he is being too loud or hovering around you.
You are finally letting more people hold you. You now let Daddy, Oma, Auntie Sophie, Gram and Papa. Sometimes a few other people get you on a lucky minute. But it's a rare occasion.
You have started to hate all your toys and only want your brothers.
You still like to be in your jumper. But let us know AS SOON as you are over it.
You still don't have much of a night schedule. I can count on you waking up at least once during the night to eat.
No rolling yet. You did it once and then never again. We think it is because you are too fat and it is just too much work for you. Same with crawling. You have no interest. But you have been sitting up by yourself like a champ since 5 months.
No teeth. But you chew and drool on EVERYTHING!
You are getting the hang of the whole eating solids thing. Pretty much everything I've given you, you've liked. No surprise there.
You don't smile a ton. Or really laugh. You are super observant and like to study people vs smile at them. Although you have started to do a fake laugh/chuckle. It is seriously hilarious.

Anybody that sees you comments on how beautiful you are and we couldn't agree more. You have so many people that love you, sweet girl.
xoxo

recently I've been...

yes I am writing two posts in a day. Mainly because a friend is making me (HI SARAH!!!) and the babies are cooperating. So now you get a post of what is going on. It's fun.

Making: um, food? I cook dinner pretty much every night. So that is about it. I would love to say I have a few crafts I am working on, but not at this time. I may try and get a fall wreath up. We shall see.

Cooking: easy things. Like 30 mins or less. Oh, and I just made this. You're welcome. Peanut butter lovers unite!!! Warning… do not continue to look through her blog. You will make all the sweets and gain all the pounds. You have been warned!!

Drinking: Coffee. Water. That's it, folks! Oh, and some wine. Because obviously!!

Reading: We just started BSF (Bible Study Fellowship) this Wednesday and will be studying the Life of Moses. So that is about all I have time for when it comes to reading.

Wanting: A more simplified wardrobe. I have been reading this blog and am so inspired by her taking the leap into only a 37 piece capsule wardrobe. I'm shooting for 40. And it is dang hard. However, I am determined. I have so been wanting a more simplified home and lifestyle. It's just been on my heart and I am trying so hard to make it happen. I really do want this book though. I have heard it is amazing.

Looking: forward to my very first Essential Oils class I will be teaching. I have been wanting to have a class for a super long time, but I kinda had a baby. Then lost my mind trying to figure out how to parent two babies. Heck, still losing my mind. But with fall and LOTS of germs, I figured now would be a great time to have one so my peeps can stay healthy. Who says peeps? Ugh, sorry.

Playing: Taylor Swift "Shake it off" Best. Song. Ever. Dance party every single time it is on.

Wasting: Precious moments dreaming about traveling. I want a more simplified everything so we can start putting money towards traveling. Like to here would be great!

Sewing: Not lately. I do need to fix Adeline's curtains though. So maybe next year? ha

Wishing: I had a latte maker. Or time to exercise more.

Enjoying: Baby grins. And Q being able to put some words together. That kid is hilarious. When he isn't being naughty.

Liking: My new dining room table. Husband made it and did an AMAZING job. It's farmhouse style and I love that we will be eating at for years to come and he built it with his own two hands. Swoon.

Wondering: how long I have until one child wakes up and this post is cut short.

Loving: The cooler temps. I wish summer could last forever, but I hate bugs. And humidity. So fall it is!

Hoping: So much. That my marriage would continue to grow stronger. I could be consistent in discipling and do it in love and biblically. That we could get out of debt faster. That someone would bring me a Caribou coffee.

Marveling: um. I don't know. Oh, maybe that God thought it would be a good idea to give me two babies. Sometimes I just don't understand, but then I think, there is a bigger plan than I can see. So I keep goin and pray a little harder for sanity.

Needing: More girlfriend time. I miss it.

Smelling: Thieves diffusing. COLDS WILL NOT GET US DOWN! If I write it in all caps, obviously it will come true.

Wearing: jeans. striped long sleeve. flannel. these earrings. and these shoes.

Following: simplicity blogs.

Opening: nothing. I wish I had good mail to look forward too. It's like Christmas.

Ok, hope you all enjoyed and weren't too bored!!

since I've been gone...

Yes, I am singing the Kelly Clarkson song "Since you've been gone" right now in my head.
You are too now.
You're welcome.

Well. It has been quite some time since I have last posted.
On purpose.
I didn't want to write anymore.
I didn't want to carve out more of my day for a blog post.
To spill my guts when I already felt like I had nothing left in me by the end of the day.
But here I am.
I guess I kinda miss it.
Spilling my guts that is.
Not carving out even more of my day.

I had another baby.
Her name is Adeline Cecelia.
And she is pretty awesome.
Being a Mom to two babies is…. um…. challenging.
Like, how do people with more than two children do it?!?!?!
No thanks.
I'll stick with two.

Q is 2.
Acting like 15.
Dude has some attitude.
We are woking on discipline and obeying.
hahahahahahahahaha it's going awesome.

Here is a picture of our Addie girl.

coffee date

it's late.
so maybe we should do decaf?

I would start off by saying that I have been figuring out how to teach the babe about God.
We have a little kids Bible.
I read it to him.
He looks at the pictures.
And that is about it.
But I feel like I should be doing more.
Maybe it's because I yearn to teach him all I can so he can grow into a mighty warrior for Christ.
But then I get nervous because I don't know all there is and I don't want to get things wrong.
So I will start small.
Read him his children's Bible.
Look at pictures.
And live it as best I can.
That's what I am here for, right?

How was your day?
Was it long, like mine?

A sweet friend came over with her boy and it was lovely.
We talked.
Our boys played.
We drank coffee and ate pizza.
It really was a coffee date on a Tuesday.
I am so thankful for beautiful friends and encouraging words.

it's ok

it's ok to sometimes feel overwhelmed.
it's ok to feel like sometimes getting through the day might be impossible.
it's ok to feel unattractive.
it's ok to feel less than perfect.

I have this awful tendency to say things I probably shouldn't when I get nervous in front of others.
Sometimes it gets really embarrassing.
Sometimes I keep rambling to try and make what I just said better.
That always backfires.
It's because I tend to try and be someone I'm not.
I'm a huge people pleaser that way.
And I'm learning to accept that.
I tell myself I have a heart for people.
And that may be true...
but trying to please every single person is going to ruin me.

I haven't been blogging much.
I was trying to blog every single day and be witty and charming.
But a lot has been going on and I have felt the need to be with my family even more.

With my uncle passing.
My sister getting married.
Seeing my family for a brief moment and then being 1,500 miles away from them again.
Finding out that a role model is actually a fraud.
Learning that the house across from your mother in law had a murder suicide of a mom and 2 littles.
Waiting on tax money to pay off bills to live a bit more comfortable.
It's been a little overwhelming.
And when I feel overwhelmed my mind starts racing to awful things.
It's kind of this thing I have.
I guess you could say that sometimes I am a glass half empty gal.
BUT.
I know that a lot of those feelings are brought on by weakness and Satan taking full advantage of the moment.

So with that being said,
This week is a new one.
A grace filled one.
And being that Easter was yesterday.
I have so much to be thankful for.
My Savior died a horrible death so that I could be free from my sins that I sadly commit everyday.
I will soak up the sun.
I will kiss my babe even more.
I will thank God that even though the days seem to be long and I can't stand another minute,
that he gives me just that.
Another minute.

Have a blessed week, friend.
You deserve it.

yoga is a must of his.
we find it pretty funny and adorable.

yesterday

I called my mother in law asking her a quick question about how to make something.
After we hung up she texted me and said,
"You sound tired. Do you need a break?"
I wanted to text her back and say,
"I am tired. I do need a break. I need help."
But I was too prideful.
And I felt guilty.
This is my job now,
I have to tough it out.

I ended up replying,
"I'm ok. Thank you though."
She came back with,
"I can give you guys $30 for dinner and I can come over and watch Quade."
Another chance for help.

Just earlier that day I told the hubs how I needed some alone time with him.
Needed it to just be him. and me.
For just a few hours.

I was still too prideful to accept her offer.
After much convincing, I finally accepted.
I still felt guilty.
I was strong, I could do this!
But the truth was...
I needed a break BAD!
And that was ok!

She came over.
Took my babe with open arms and ushered us off to dinner.
And it was lovely.

Here's the thing I need to let go of...
Just because I need a few hours alone with my husband, doesn't make me a bad momma.

To ask for help and accept it with grace is actually being a good momma.
I need to let go of my pride and actually say what I need.
I need to try and stop being a people pleaser.

jalapeño stuffed with cream cheese wrapped with bacon. oh. my. word.
looks deadly and delish.

then we came home and I could enjoy this silly moment.
as I was getting ready for bed, I heard a "clomp, clomp, clomp"
and my babe was crawling to me.
big smile.
so proud of himself.
and we sat in the bathroom.
all four of us.
and soaked in the little moments.
and I remembered why I love this new title of momma.

quiet

I have a teething baby in my house.
Poor babe.
For the last couple of nights there really hasn't been any sleep.
Lots of cuddles.
Lots of irritability... on mommy and daddy's part too.

Which has resulted in being quiet on the blog.
I have had no ambition to write.

On a good note...
he is still exploring.
A lot.
And he has transitioned from army crawl to full on crawl.
Which means he is faster.
And gets Gibson's toys more.
Which means he is a happy boy.

being an encouragement

I recently went to our local library to check out a few parenting books.
I asked the librarian if she could point me in the right direction.
She was in her mid 40's and she smiled politely and showed me the way.
She asked if I was looking for anything in particular and I told her some sleep aid books...
preferably no-cry method.
She looked at me and said,
"How old is he?"
"8 months."
"Is he still nursing?!"
"Yes he is."
"Oh. Well good luck with that." In a not so very nice tone.

Here is the thing.
Becoming a Mom has been amazing.
I kinda thought that I would join this un-spoken club for Moms.
You know, the one that lets you lean on everyone's shoulders and pats you on the back and says it's going to be ok?
Does that not exist?
Well, I still have hope.

It is really discouraging for fellow Mom's to turn their nose up at you and give you the brush off.
Yes, lots of advice can be overwhelming.
But sometimes the easiest thing to do, even if you don't agree with their parenting choice, is to say...
"I really hope you find what you are looking for. Good luck with everything!"
A little smile even goes a long way.

This goes for anything really.
So often we are so quick to say something to disagree with someone, or put them down.
Sometimes it's just enough to put the other person off the edge.
Where is the compassion in that?
Where is the helping hand?

I really hope that this week, before you say something to disagree with someone, you think...
What good is this going to do me?
Yes, it can be hard to be silent sometimes, but the old saying goes...
If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Have a beautiful week friends.
I don't know about you, but this time change is kinda kicking my butt.
I'm off for another cup of coffee.

being the mom you were meant to be

I find myself reading parenting advice columns.
Comparing my parenting to someone else's.
Getting down on myself for doing something "they" said I shouldn't.
I really should stop.
I'm Quade's momma.
The Lord gave ME him to take care of.
Nurture and love.
Not someone on the parenting blog.
It's all advice.
To be taken as a grain of sand and thought of as a helping hand.
Not the bible of parenting.
Yes, I understand that some things have been tried and proven to work.
BUT every baby is different.
It may not work for you, and the longer you sit thinking...
"Why is my baby different? Why isn't this working for my baby?"
You miss out on just that.
That your baby is different.
Maybe by trying something new and telling someone about it,
you will help someone else who has the same thing going on.
I know everyone has heard this before.
I just feel like daily I have to remind myself that I am being the mom I was meant to be.
Even if that means rocking my babe to sleep.
Not letting him cry it out.
Sometimes even catering to him.
I tend to be a slave to what others tell me,
not really following my instinct because it's not exactly what I was told would work.

I am not a parenting expert.
I still love getting advice from other momma's.
All I am saying is that for me, I need to not have it written in stone.
I will be a much better momma by doing that.

Happy Thursday, Friends!
I like to pretend it's the weekend.
Grey's is on and it's one step closer to Friday.
I told the hubs about this and he looked at me and said,
"So how does that work for ya?"
I replied... "It keeps me sane for a little longer. So I'd say it works!"

He finally realized he can see himself. He tends to put his face on the mirror and blow bubbles on it.
Then looks at me with a great big smile.
Who needs other entertainment when you have this guy around?!
